His litigation practice encompasses a broad range of work, specifically commercial disputes, contract disputes, employment disputes, landlord and tenant disputes and broader real estate disputes.

 

His transactional work covers commercial agreements and corporate and real estate acquisitions and disposals. In addition, he has expertise in professional football-related sports law bringing a technical, forensic and commercial approach to the world of sport.

His clients are entrepreneurs and business owners who have founded, managed and developed their own businesses and professional football-related clients.

Andrew’s interests include watching football and cricket, keeping fit, travel and theatre.

Dispute resolution

  • Acted on behalf of a senior employee in a large transport business to successfully resist a substantial claim against him for injunctive relief and damages which was settled on advantageous terms
  • Represented a substantial paper merchant in a claim against a supplier mill for damages for breach of contract which was successfully compromised
  • Acted on behalf of a food wholesaler in a substantial claim against a national retailer for damages which was successfully compromised
  • Acted on behalf of a buyer of commercial property at a substantial price on a claim by the seller for specific performance alternatively damages which was settled successfully
  • Represented borrowers to defend a claim for possession and putting forward novel defences under the CCA which enabled the claim to be resisted
  • Acted on behalf of a High Net Worth (HNW) client mansion owner in claims (1) to enforce a party wall award and (2) for damages against contractors both of which claims were resolved on advantageous terms of settlement
  • Represented an oligarch in a claim for damages against former tenants of a high-class residential property and recovering substantial damages and costs at trial
  • Acted on behalf of a HNW individual in a claim on a promissory note issued as security for a private equity investment commenced by way of a statutory demand followed by a bankruptcy petition resulting in a bankruptcy order being made against the recipient of the investment who then applied for an annulment of the bankruptcy order which application was refused at first instance and then by the Court of Appeal
  • Represented defendants in a claim by an English Football League club in respect of the development of the stadium and the adjoining land which was ultimately settled
  • Acted on behalf of a an international Premier League footballer to (1) set aside a default judgment obtained by national lender on the grounds that his signature on the mortgage deed was a forgery and (2) investigate potential misappropriation by his agent
  • Represented another international Premier League footballer in disciplinary proceedings brought by (1) the Football Association in respect of certain breaches of FA rules and (2) the employer club consequent upon the said FA proceedings the outcome of which proceedings was highly satisfactory
  • Represented a football registered intermediary regarding proceedings brought by the Football Association in respect of certain breaches of FA rules the outcome of which was highly satisfactory
  • Acted on behalf of a minority shareholder in a claim in respect of the acquisition of his shares pursuant to a wrongful valuation of his shares and obtaining an advantageous settlement
  • Acted on behalf of a minority shareholder on a section 994 CA 2006 unfair prejudice claim compromised on advantageous terms
  • Acted on behalf of a tenant of a large commercial building to successfully resist a substantial dilapidations claim brought by the landlord
  • Acted on behalf of both landlords and tenants on possession claims in respect of both commercial and residential properties, opposed lease renewals in respect of commercial properties and service charge dispute in relation to residential properties
