Nicholas joined Cubism Law in April 2013 to assist Robert Taylor in establishing the firm’s Media and Intellectual Property department. A practicing solicitor, Nicholas combines many years of industry experience with a wealth of knowledge and practical expertise spanning the entire spectrum of the entertainment business and beyond.
Nicholas works with events organisations, production companies, talent representatives, digital content/communication businesses and other rights-based organisations operating both in and outside the UK. He has particular proficiency in contractual aspects of the live events industry, including festivals, touring agreements, co-funding ventures and sponsorship matters.
Nicholas also advises in relation to general intellectual property matters, most notably in relation to trademarks, branding/merchandising and endorsement agreements. He has been instrumental in settling numerous shareholder, contract and IP-related disputes and, for those considering actions for breach of contract, he offers a preliminary ‘desktop’ contract audit as a precursor to any formal process.
Equally passionate about the development of online businesses and strategy, Nicholas provides a responsive and highly cost-effective one-stop service for media start-ups or established businesses seeking to take on investment partners or undertaking due diligence. He participates in a regular law clinic for TechHub members at London’s Google Campus.
Nicholas has recently agreed to act as legal consultant for the Vocalist Songwriters Alliance and is keen to put his experiences both as a performer and practitioner to good use. For musicians seeking initial advice on contractual matters he is willing, subject to availability and prior commitments, to arrange one-to-one 30 minute consultation sessions without charge.
Nicholas strives to provide a personable and results-oriented service, employing a holistic approach incorporating his experiences both outside and within the law.
In addition to maintaining a busy practice Nicholas is a professional musician in his own right. Besides being much in demand as a wedding singer in and around London he has performed as a concert soloist in such far-flung venues as the Royal Albert Hall, the Liszt Academy and the Ishibashi Memorial Hall in Tokyo.
He is also a trustee of the Species Recovery Trust, for whom he acts as treasurer: Species Recovery Trust
