Young renters targeted by fraudsters
Published on 10 Nov 2009 under category: legal
Young, single people renting property are the biggest targets for identity fraud crimes.
This is according to a new report by CreditExpert, the fraud protection service from Experian.
The study found that people in rented accommodation are the worst-hit by this kind of criminal activity.
Of these, young professionals in London and Glasgow are the most susceptible to be victims of these frauds.
The research found that these groups were twice as likely to be defrauded in this way than the average person.
Darryl Bowman, director of CreditExpert, said that fraudsters are focusing on people whose details they can obtain most easily.
He added: "Because of this, each one of us needs to be aware of the dangers of ID fraud and take steps to protect our identity and stop thieves from getting access to our personal information."
Earlier this week, the Guardian suggested that graduate jobseekers are being targeted by fraudsters with fake employment adverts.
