Upturn in litigation predicted for this year

A "litigation boom" has been predicted for 2010 after 12 months of respective sides taking stock of their legal positions.

This is according to the Law Society Gazette's Lucy Trevelyan, who explained that one of the major areas of activity will in planning sector litigation.

Other legal professionals have suggested that the new wave of new and proposed legislation will lead to an increase in consumer credit litigation over the course of the year, with 2006's Consumer Credit Act and 2008's Consumer Credit Directive both having taken effect.

Those involved in debt collection are forecast to have a busy 12 months thanks to the effects of the credit crunch and global recession, both of which look set to keep fraud lawyers in action.

Many cases, it is predicted, will involve disgruntled ex-employees fighting sacking decisions, with a number of professionals finding it hard to secure another position in the wake of their redundancy.

ZeroMillion.com recently reported that, during the course of 2009, there were more than 8,000 lawsuits related to credit in the US.
