UK card fraud drops
Published on 7 Oct 2009 under category: legal
Losses through fraud crimes on plastic cards in the UK have fallen.
Figures from Financial Fraud Action UK found that these dropped by 23 per cent in the first six months of 2009 when compared with the same period of last year.
This represents losses through fraud crimes of this type of £232.8 million.
However, there were increases in phishing incidents during the period studied.
The research showed that these rose by 26 per cent when compared to the first half of last year.
This means that there were 26,000 phishing incidents in the UK during the first six months of 2009, those involved with the investigation of identity fraud crimes may be interested to hear.
Earlier this week, the Independent reported that a source has told them that plans for a national reporting centre to tackle fraud crimes are "dead in the water", with funding issues cited as a reason for this.
