Two jailed over credit card fraud

Published on 24 Dec 2009 under category: legal

Two men have been jailed in relation to multimillion-pound fraud crimes.

Gboyega Akinbola and Oyetunde Oyedeji were sentenced to three and-a-half-years and two years respectively for their part in a £20 million credit card scam.

The pair are thought to have spent more than £60,000 after purchasing the credit card details of over 1,100 people.

It is believed that the information was bought from an international hacking group.

The men's fraud was only revealed when Moss Hill, the owner of a music shop, became suspicious of a transaction involving Mr Akinbola and uncovered evidence through the Nigerian's email account.

Mr Hills was awarded £500 as a reward from the public purse by Judge Christopher Hardy for his help in bringing the fraud crimes to light.

Earlier this week, a Briton was accused by Australian authorities of a major debit card skimming fraud.

The scam is thought to be the largest of its kind to ever take place in Australia.
