The IPPC has charged three metropolitan police officers with attempting to overcharge for flat rentals in Leeds, where they stayed to investigate the July 7th London bombings.

Detective sergeant Peter Allbut, detective constable Daren Pooley and detective sergeant Nevill Caldecourt were accused of misconduct in a public office.

An IPCC spokesman said: "The charges relate to an alleged conspiracy to defraud the Metropolitan Police Service by dishonestly participating in a scheme to overcharge the MPS for flat rentals in Leeds, with the intention of making a secret profit thereby and distributing monies so raised among themselves."

Mr Pooley's wife, her sister and brother-in-law are charged in relation to the offences.

The investigation by the MPS's Directorate of Professional Standards found that the unbold the Scotland Yard counter-terrorism trio may have also abused corporate credit cards.

The offences allegedly took place between 1 April 2006 and 30 September 2007.
