A small town in the north of England has been named as a hotspot when it comes to credit card fraud crimes.

According to a study by The Third Man, between August 1st 2008 and August 1st 2009 in Shildon 3,014 of the 12,229 online transactions which were monitored were fraudulent.

Meanwhile, south east London was also found to be a popular location for these kinds of criminals to operate out of.

It revealed that in Woolwich, £2.6 million of goods and products were purchased fraudulently during the studied period.

As well as London and Shildon, high levels of fraud crimes were found in the Midlands, with Nottingham and Coventry both cited.

In other news, last week figures released by the Finance and Leasing Association suggested that fraud crimes in the motor industry are decreasing.

The statistics revealed that the number of fraudulent loans in the sector fell by 29 per cent during the second quarter of the year.
