SFO 'very interested' in fraud crimes information

Published on 16 Jul 2009 under category: legal

The Serious Fraud Office (SFO) is "very interested" in hearing from people who have information on criminal activity, according to a source.

Richard Alderman, director of the body, told the Financial Times that the group is keen to gather information on fraud crimes with relation to the hedge fund sector.

However, he added that this is not due to any particular belief that this industry is more susceptible to these types of criminal activity.

He explained to the publication: "We do not believe that the hedge fund sector is being run inappropriately. What we are saying is that - as in any other industry - there may be opportunities for fraud. That is what we are looking for."

Mr Alderman added that the SFO is "very interested" in anything from whistleblowers and the public with regards to fraud crimes with a link to the City.
