SFO set for MG Rover decision
Published on 10 Aug 2009 under category: legal
The Serious Fraud Office (SFO) is set to reveal whether a full-scale probe into the demise of MG Rover is to take place.
It is thought that the SFO will announce the decision on Tuesday (August 11th), those working on cases involving the fraud crimes body may be interested to hear.
This centres on whether there are "grounds for prosecution" in the company's collapse, Lord Mandelson, the business secretary, revealed last month.
If the SFO opts not to look further into whether criminal activity was present during the final months of the car maker's operations, it could refer to matter to another body, such as the police.
The inquiry into the demise of MG Rover has been ongoing for the last four years, after the firm collapsed in 2005.
Last month, Vince Cable, treasury spokesman for the Liberal Democrats, welcomed the SFO's decision to enter the investigation of this case.
