SFO probe into JJB focuses on 'individuals, not companies'

Published on 25 Sep 2009 under category: legal

JJB Sports has claimed that the Serious Fraud Office's (SFO's) investigation into the firm centres around individuals rather than the company as a whole.

The sportswear giant, along with rival Sports Direct, are the subject of a probe by the fraud crimes body earlier this month.

However, JJB has commented that it has been told by the SFO that it is individuals that it is looking into, rather than entire firm.

This came as the company announced losses of £42.9 million for the six months up to July, with chairman Sir David Jones stating that this shows a fall in retail operations, suggesting that in this time the business had been in danger of having to call in insolvency solicitors.

It was revealed earlier this month that the SFO has launched an investigation into Sports Direct and JJB, after the latter contacted the Office of Fair Trading regarding a possible cartel, fraud crime lawyers may remember.
