SFO launches Levene investigation

Published on 23 Oct 2009 under category: legal

A major fraud crimes body has launched an investigation into Nick Levene.

The Serious Fraud Office (SFO) is looking into the actions of the City financier.

Mr Levene, who was recently declared bankrupt, has faced complaints from investors claiming that they are owed money.

It was alleged that he disappeared earlier this month as around 30 of his clients called in insolvency experts to help them launch a fight for their money.

An SFO spokesperson said: "A 45-year-old man voluntarily attended an interview under caution at the SFO on October 15th 2009, and was released without charge pending further inquiries."

Mr Levene, who is a vice-chairman for Leyton Orient Football Club, has writs against him which detail debts of around £20 million.

Earlier this week, a City lawyer was convicted of a £7.4 million fraud involving the Tokyo-Mitsubishi Bank, at which she worked as the head of legal, and the funding of an airline.
