Scots 'concerned about fraud crimes'
Published on 28 Oct 2009 under category: legal
Bank fraud crimes are more of a worry for people in Scotland than being mugged, a new study has suggested.
The Scottish Crime and Justice 2008-09 research revealed that 56 per cent of respondents were concerned about their personal details being stolen.
Meanwhile, 51 per cent were worried about the possibility of being the victim of identity fraud crimes.
This compares to less than a third that were concerned about being mugged, which shows the fear associated with fraud crimes.
The study, which involved more than 16,000 people being questioned, showed that there were around one million crimes in the country during the period covered by the research.
Earlier this week, Yuval Ben-Itzhak, chief technology officer for Finjan, said that websites are vulnerable to fraudsters.
He commented that there are opportunities for hackers, with there being a "big market" for the data that can be collected by doing so.
