Psion and Intel resolve intellectual property dispute

Published on 2 Jun 2009 under category: legal

An intellectual property dispute between two international IT companies has been resolved out of court, a source reveals.

The case between Psion and Intel centred on the use of the term netbook, which the former organisation applied for copyright for in 1996, ZDNet.co.uk reports.

A number of cease and desist letters were sent out when the term was used for other hardware items not manufactured by the firm.

In a statement, the claimant says that an agreement has been reached in which it will withdraw its trademark registrations for the word, resolving the intellectual property dispute.

"Neither party accepted any liability. In light of this amicable agreement, Psion has agreed to waive all its rights against third parties in respect of past, current or future use of the 'Netbook' term," it tells the news provider.

Earlier this year, Intel was given a fine for €1.06bn (£950m) by the European Commission after it was found to have engaged in anti-competitive behaviour.ADNFCR-2391-ID-19198294-ADNFCR
