Police seek church fraudster

Published on 5 Jan 2010 under category: legal

Police in Devon have released details about a man they want to speak to in connection with fraud crimes.

The authorities are seeking Mark Proctor in relation to scamming church-goers out of money.

He is alleged to have conned parishioners by telling them that he needed money for travel fare so that he could identify a parent's body.

Detective Constable Jane Gerrard said that anyone approached with such a request should not hand over any money and should instead contact the police.

She added: "Obviously he is still out there and people don't always report to police as they feel embarrassed at being conned or they still believe that he will come back and repay the money."

Anyone with information on these suspected fraud crimes are asked to contact the police or Crimestoppers.

Earlier this week, it was suggested that three members of parliament may attempt to use parliamentary privilege to avoid a fraud investigation linked to their expense claims.
