Pietersen targeted by fraud crimes

England cricketer Kevin Pietersen was among those targeted by those carrying out £80 million fraud crimes, it has been revealed.

The Ashes star's spokesman Adam Wheatley confirmed that the 29-year-old had been approached regarding investing in what has now turned out to be a Ponzi scam.

Mr Wheatley said: "He [Mr Pietersen] said, 'What do you think of this?' It seemed too good to be true. I know he did not put a penny in."

It is thought that other England cricketers may have also been targeted by the fraud crimes.

Kautilya Nandan Pruthi, who is alleged to have been behind the scam, has been re-arrested by police in relation to the scheme.

Earlier this week, the City of London police revealed that sportspeople and a 1960s pop star are thought to be among those stung by the £80 million fraud crimes.

Bob Wishart, of the City of London police's fraud squad, said victims of the scam had been "hoodwinked".ADNFCR-2391-ID-19276464-ADNFCR
