Petition signed against govt plans for NI hike
Published on 1 Mar 2010 under category: legal
Several industry bodies have called on small firms to sign a petition against plans to increase national insurance contributions.
According to the Confederation of British industry, the Federation of Small Businesses and the British Chambers of Commerce, the one per cent increase will cost around 57,000 jobs.
John Wright, the national chairman of the FSB, said: "This petition calling for no rise in National Insurance Contributions will tell Government that real action needs to be taken to really help tackle unemployment."
The requested freeze will prevent over £14 billion being sucked out of business revenues over the next four years.
The BCC claims that businesses will face a bill of around £25.6 billion from compliance and new regulation if the government goes ahead with the increase.
Other signatories of the petition include the Forum of Private Business, the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development, the Institute of Directors and the Recruitment and Employment Confederation.
