MoD sued over fun-day incident
Published on 19 Oct 2009 under category: legal
The Ministry of Defence (MoD) is being sued by a former Royal Air Force (RAF) technician who was paralysed at a fun day.
Robert Uren broke his neck after slipping while collecting plastic fruit from an inflatable pool at the MoD It's A Knockout-style competition.
A High Court case is now scheduled for November 23rd, with a possible key point of Mr Uren's argument thought to be whether the MoD had allowed him to dive into a swallow pool.
He has received a payout from the Armed Forces Compensation Scheme, however, it is thought that he is seeking more than £6 million in damages for the incident, which resulted in him being medically discharged from the RAF and has left him in a wheelchair.
In other litigation news, singer Carly Simon is suing Starbucks, claiming that the coffee chain failed to adequately promote her 2008 This Kind of Love album.
