Mike Read selling records after bankruptcy

Published on 30 Sep 2009 under category: legal

A former Radio One DJ is selling his radio collection after being declared bankrupt, it has been revealed.

Mike Read, who worked for the station from the 1978 until 1991, is thought to have around 120,000 vinyl discs.

He is taking this action after being declared bankrupt for the second time.

It is thought that the collection could be worth as much as £1 million, with an auction guide price of £750,000 put on it.

Hugh Thompson, a valuation agent involved in the sale, commented: "This is proving to be one of the defining vinyl collections and is easily the most exciting to come on to the market in years."

Mr Read, who also presented Top of the Pops and has appeared on I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out of Here, is reported to have had his assets taking over by an insolvency expert.

Last week, former Celtic footballer Bobo Balde was declared "technically bankrupt" over a debt of less than £8,000.
