Midway in intellectual property case

Published on 1 Jul 2009 under category: legal

A dispute has emerged over an entertainment and video game franchise.

Lawrence Kasanoff has filed a lawsuit against publishing group Midway regarding the intellectual property rights of the Mortal Kombat series.

The action has been taken in order to protect Mr Kasanoff's hold on the intellectual property rights to transform the franchise into movies and television programmes, if Midway was sold.

Midway earlier this year filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy and is at the centre of rumours regarding a takeover, those involved with commercial litigation may be interested to hear.

Mr Kasanoff is suing the publisher through his Threshold Entertainment company amid speculation that the rights to the Mortal Kombat series could be sold, with Warner Bros cited as a potential buyer.

In other news which may interest those involved with commercial litigation, earlier this month Madonna was dismissed from a lawsuit involving a firm that she founded.ADNFCR-2391-ID-19245225-ADNFCR
