Michael Jackson 'to be sued for breach of contract'

Published on 12 Jun 2009 under category: legal

Commercial litigation has been filed against King of Pop Michael Jackson alleging breach of contract over his agreement to play a number of gigs at the O2 Arena.

AllGood Entertainment, the company behind a series of the planned Jackson Five reunion, claims that his residency at the venue breaks their agreement.

It says that the singer had agreed not to take part in any solo performances before the event or for three months following the gig. The promoter has filed a claim for a total of $40 million (£24.4 million) in damages.

Patrick Allocco, managing partner at the plaintiff, tells the BBC: "We've given Michael Jackson and AEG every opportunity, publicly and privately, to resolve this matter and to date we have not heard from anyone."

Last year, the singer was sued by prince of Bahrain Sheikh Abdullah bin Hamad Al Khalifa over an alleged breach of contract created by Mr Jackson's failure to write and record new material, although this charge was settled out of court.ADNFCR-2391-ID-19216612-ADNFCR
