Man arrested over comedian fraud
Published on 11 Jan 2010 under category: legal
A man has been arrested due to suspected fraud crimes involving some of the UK's biggest comedy stars.
Antonio Taylor is accused of promising to put on gigs at a 250 capacity club in Weymouth featuring Michael McIntyre, Jimmy Carr and Frankie Boyle.
As part of this, Mr Taylor is alleged to have received £20,000 as a deposit for booking BBC star McIntyre.
However, the agents of the comedy stars that Mr Taylor had claimed he could deliver raised alarm bells upon seeing advertisements in the Dorset Echo newspaper giving information about their clients' appearance at the Round House club in Weymouth.
Owners of the venue were informed by the agents that no agreement was in place for McIntyre, Carr or Boyle to put on shows at the club.
Dorset police confirmed that a 25-year-old man had been arrested in connection with fraud and has been since released on bail.
