Madeleine McCann investigator wanted for fraud

Published on 23 Nov 2009 under category: legal

A security expert has been charged with fraud crimes worth £1.3 million.

Kevin Halligen, who has been involved in the search for Madeleine McCann, is wanted by the FBI in relation to claims that he purchased a mansion with money that he had obtained fraudulently.

The charge stated that Mr Halligen bought the property with money that had been given to his company by a law firm.

This funding is supposed to be used to help ensure the release of two energy executives who were imprisoned in the Ivory Coast.

Mr Halligen is yet to be arrested as the FBI is unclear of his exact whereabouts, with suggestions that he may be in the UK.

The 48-year-old owns Oakley International, which was paid around £300,000 to aid the search for Madeleine McCann after her disappearance in 2007.

Much of the money used to fund the search was publically donated.
