Lottery winner speaks at fraud crimes trial
Published on 25 Aug 2009 under category: legal
A lottery winner has told a fraud crimes trial that his involvement with a former football director led him to lose £3 million.
John McGuiness commented that Dominic Keane duped him into joining forces to fund a new stand for Livingston FC.
The £10 million lottery winner put up bonds against bank loans of £2.3 million, however, he was later sued by the Royal Bank of Scotland for the money when the project encountered difficulties.
It was revealed to Edinburgh High Court that Mr McGuiness is now unemployed and lives off the interest of his 1996 windfall.
Mr Keane, who is a former director of Celtic FC, is accused of fraud crimes against the bank, however, he denies this.
Earlier this week, it was reported by the Daily Mail that lottery winner Callie Rogers, who scooped £1.9 million when she was 16 years old, is working as a cleaner and could be facing bankruptcy.
