Lewisham Council sued for unfair dismissal
Published on 12 Oct 2009 under category: legal
A council employee is suing her bosses after she was sacked for her views on homosexuality.
Denise Haye, who worked for Lewisham Council, was dismissed from her post after leaving comments on the Lesbian and Gay Christian Movement (LGCM) website stating that homosexuality was contrary to the teachings of the Bible.
The chief executive of the LGCM put in a complaint regarding Ms Haye with her employers, with her later being sacked from her position following an investigation.
Ms Haye is now suing the council for unfair dismissal, claiming that she accessed the website on her work computer outside of office hours and she believed her comments would be confidential.
She added that she did not realise that she was making these statements on a gay and lesbian website, saying that she did so without any malicious intent.
