Irish businessman's white collar crime charges dropped
Published on 19 Aug 2009 under category: legal
White collar crime charges have been dropped against an Irish businessman on trial in a US court, a source reveals.
Jerry Shanahan, a former chief operating officer for Enterasys who was a defendant in a fraud case, was released after a ruling that confirmed a former Enron executive could not face trial due to the double jeopardy rule, the Irish Independent reports.
He says: "I never believed that I would be jailed because I had truth on my side. I waived all my rights because I had an idealised vision of American justice."
The case was based on accusations that he and four executives had conspired to inflate revenue in 2001.
According to the news provider, Mr Shanahan is the only defendant who was not convicted on six charges of white collar crimes including mail and wire fraud, as well as conspiracy.
Earlier this month, David Manskill was jailed for white collar crimes including fraud after stealing a friend's details to apply for a business credit card.
