Investors most worried about tax rises

Published on 22 Mar 2010 under category: legal

Investors are most worried about the effect of tax rises on their finances this year, according to a new survey by an industry body.

The Association of Investment Companies has found that the forthcoming general election has left just under half (45 per cent) of active investors seriously concerned about taxes.

Well over half (72 per cent) have decided to take out an ISA this year – a rise of six per cent on last year (66 per cent).

Other findings in the report included that investors are now turning to emerging markets, though over half (64 per cent) still mainly invest in the UK. The percentage of active investors investing in emerging markets has more than doubled since last year to 13 per cent from six per cent.

The report attributed the increased rate of investment in emerging markets to the "increasing risk appetite of investors and the popularity of these regions".
