A National Health Service (NHS) hospital is set to change the way it is run through a franchise agreement, it has been revealed.
Hinchingbrooke Health Centre Care Trust will be franchised in a bid to ensure a "sustainable future", according to the Department for Health.
In what is the first arrangement of its kind, a private firm could potentially take over the running of the medial facility.
Mark Millar, chief executive at the hospital, stated he is "delighted" that the task of franchising can now begin.
He added: "Throughout the process we will be looking for opportunities for staff and services which enhance high quality local services for local people."
Stephen Dunn, director of strategy for NHS East of England, commented that the news regarding a franchise agreement will come as a "great relief" to those concerned about the hospital's future.
Elsewhere, Andrew Cutler, Card Connection franchise and sales director, recently told thefranchisemagazine.net, that membership in the British Franchise Association is something to look for when choosing a business of this kind.
