Guardian jobs website hacked

Published on 26 Oct 2009 under category: legal

Fraudsters have hacked the jobs website of a major broadsheet newspaper.

The Guardian's online jobs section was targeted by what has been described as a "sophisticated and deliberate" attack.

An email has been sent to users of the website to inform them of the hack.

It said: "You have used the site to make one or more job applications and we believe your personal data, relating to those applications, may have been accessed."

The email continued by advising consumers to contact their creditors, so that accounts can be monitored in case of any instances of identity theft or fraud crimes.

It went on to say that the supplier of the website had identified the way in which it was hacked and has taken steps to ensure that it does not happen again.

Last week, a 'crash for cash' fraudster was jailed for four-and-a-half years after being found guilty of deliberately causing road accidents for financial gain.
