Group guilty of eBay fraud

Published on 15 Dec 2009 under category: legal

The group behind the biggest-ever eBay fraud have been found guilty of their involvement with the scam.

Seven people were convicted at Snaresbrook Crown Court in relation to the multi-million pound golf equipment scheme.

The fraud involved counterfeit goods on the auction website, claiming that they were well-known brands.

Roy Cottee, Kay Cottee, Sharron Williams and Helen Wilson were found guilty of conspiring to sell or distribute counterfeit items.

Meanwhile, Keith Thomas, Gary Bellchambers and Chris Moughton had already pleaded guilty.

Bellchambers, a 45-year-old man from London, has been pinpointed as being the leader of the scam.

It is thought that as many as 96,000 transactions involving the sale of golf clubs and equipment were made by the gang.

Earlier this week, Daniel Healy and Martyn Jagger were found guilty of a £1 million boiler room fraud.

The pair used cold calling to scam investors into purchasing worthless or overpriced shares.
