Former Leeds director files for bankruptcy
Published on 14 Oct 2009 under category: legal
A former director of Leeds United Football Club has been declared bankrupt.
Simon Morris filed a bankruptcy order at Leeds Crown Court, bankruptcy solicitors may be interested to learn.
The property entrepreneur saw his SRM Holdings Group go into administration last year amid speculation of multi-million pound debts.
Bob Maxwell, a joint administrator of the company, said: "The bankruptcy was, I'm afraid, inevitable given the huge debts and significant guarantees held by creditors."
As well as SRM Holdings Group, 36 subsidiary companies were also taken control of by administrators last year.
Mr Morris was reported to have launched a multi-million pound bid to buy Leeds United in 2007, however, this was unsuccessful.
In other news, True Temper Sports, a steel tubing producer, has filed for bankruptcy protection.
The firm, which has debts of around $319 million (£199 million) according to court documents, has come under Chapter 11 as it looks to restructure.
