A former executive for a major US company has been jailed for a fraud crime.

Joseph Hirko, who was previously employed by Enron Broadband, was given a 16-month sentence by a US district court judge after pleading guilty to wire fraud.

He was also ordered to pay around $7 million (£4.4 million) to the victims of his fraud crime.

The punishment comes in relation to a press release from 2000 in which Mr Hirko is said to have approved language which falsely promoted Enron's broadband operating system.

Mr Hirko pleaded guilty to one charge of fraud in October of last year, fraud crimes lawyers may be interested to hear.

In other news, two men were recently arrested and questioned in Northern Ireland in relation to suspected fraud crimes.

The pair were detained on Friday (September 25th) and kept for questioning over the weekend, with around £100,000 in cash being seized upon their arrest.
