Former England star declared bankrupt
Published on 22 Oct 2009 under category: legal
Former Liverpool and England footballer John Barnes has been declared bankrupt.
The star, who was recently sacked from his job as manager of Tranmere Rovers, has played down the news.
He said: "The bankruptcy issue is a tax oversight which is being dealt with.''
Barnes was declared bankrupt in a Liverpool court and is now having his assets assessed by a receiver, the Insolvency Service has confirmed.
The source added that it is expected that the bankruptcy should be discharged on October 14th of next year.
As well as a footballer, Barnes has become known in recent years for spells as a manager with Celtic and Jamaica, work as a football pundit and presenter and appearing on Strictly Come Dancing.
In other news involving bankruptcy solicitors, earlier this week DSB, the Dutch lender, was declared bankrupt.
