A football agent has been accused of fraud.

Ian Elliott, who previously represented England winger Stuart Downing, was charged yesterday (December 14th) in relation to the allegations.

The 51-year-old was arrested in September and has now been charged with five counts of fraud.

He is accused of conspiracy to defraud and money laundering, allegations that were made against him by Downing.

A spokesperson for Cleveland Police confirmed: "A 51-year-old man from the Tyneside area has been charged with five counts of fraud and is due to appear at Teesside Magistrates Court in the new year."

Mr Elliott has proclaimed his innocence since he was arrested earlier this year.

Last week, Attahiru Bafarawa, who is the former governor of Sokoto State and a previous Nigerian presidential candidate, was arrested as part of a fraud investigation.

The arrest took place during a raid of opposition leaders conducted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.
