Donations save restaurant from bankruptcy

Published on 3 Dec 2009 under category: legal

A bankrupt restaurant boss has been able to get his business back on its feet thanks to donations from its customers.

Henry Wong was forced to close his eatery in Yate after running up Inland Revenue debts of £15,000.

However, his customers were so keen for the firm to get back to cooking up Chinese meals that a group of them raised £20,000 to allowing the business to re-open in a new Chipping Sodbury premises.

Mr Wong told the Gazette: "I cannot actually believe it. I thought I would be out of business forever.

"It's unbelievable what everyone's done for me. I can't thank them enough."

He also said that the generosity is "really good news" when the current economic climate is taken into account.

While Mr Wong's business has been saved, many others may not be so lucky in 2010, it was claimed recently.

Earlier this week, Association of British Recovery Professionals R3 predicted a rise in insolvencies over the coming months.
