Dewsbury bathrooms company wound up

Published on 15 Jan 2010 under category: legal

A kitchen, bedroom and bathroom fitments supplier has been liquidated following an investigation into financial misdealings.

Customers reported the Dewsbury-based company Advance Kitchens, Bedrooms & Bathroom Ltd (Advance) to the local Trading Standards office after deposits were taken without work being completed.

The inquiry into complaints by the Companies Investigation Branch of the Insolvency Service found that money was being passed into the accounts of formerly disqualified director Akhtar Ahmed Sheikh, who was unofficially managing the company.

County court judgements filed against the company totalled almost £37,000.

Records of customer accounts were so poor that the investigation found it "impossible" to pursue the allegations. Financial records revealed that no more than £300,000 of company money had passed through a cash-chequing facility and a sole-trader account.

Mr. Sheikh had been disqualified for his previous conduct as the director of a company called Dream Interiors UK Ltd, which also sold fittings.
