Conservative peer fraud crime investigation underway
Published on 14 Sep 2009 under category: legal
A fraud crimes investigation has begun to examine the actions of a Conservative party peer.
This action is being taken against Lord Taylor of Warwick after it emerged that he received more than £70,000 in expenses relating to the use of his mother's home.
These claims came as the peer said that he was living with his mother between 2001 and 2007, however, it has now been revealed that she died in 2001 and the house was sold shortly after.
Lord Taylor was able to obtain these expenses through stating that he was living outside of London, but reports now suggest that he has not been based outside of the city for 18 years, those involved in fraud crimes investigations may be interested to hear.
In other news, last week a fraud crimes probe was launched into Sports Direct International and JJB Sports after the latter had contacted the Office of Fair Trading regarding a possible cartel.
