Changing face of recruitment in law

Published on 26 Feb 2010 under category: legal

Laws firms will have to change their recruitment strategies in the future, according a human resources expert.

Joanna Parker, head of human resources at a law firm, wrote in The Lawyer this week that a sea change in recruitment would be needed for firms adapting to a more competitive global legal services market and fixed fees.

She said: "Getting the competency model right to ensure the firm recognises and rewards the behaviours that will build a strong and flexible workforce will be a significant HR challenge."

Professionals in law HR will have to handle changes in the delivery of work that will require creating a "wider spectrum of career paths and renumeration structures" that are very different from current structures followed by "traditional solicitors-in-training".

A report released by PricewaterhouseCoopers this week found that CEOs across the world were planning to institute new recruitment methods to hold onto the best talent.
