Carly Simon sues Starbucks
Published on 16 Oct 2009 under category: legal
Carly Simon is suing Starbucks for failing to promote her 2008 album.
Simon is taking legal action after her This Kind of Love record, which was released through the chain's Hear Music label, sold around 124,000 copies.
She is citing a failure in promotion from Starbucks as a reason for this, saying that the album was not available in all of the coffee chain's stores.
The lawsuit accused Starbucks of failing to inform her that it was planning to downsize its record label, adding that she has also not received the full advance that she agreed with the firm.
Her lawyer said: "Instead of advising her as soon as they could that this was a problem, Starbucks kept it secret, and they tried to deceive her even after they made the so-called public announcement."
The 64-year-old singer has also claimed that since releasing the record she has had to postpone her retirement.
