Car industry fraud crimes 'decreasing'
Published on 4 Sep 2009 under category: legal
Fraud crimes in the motor industry are decreasing, a new study has shown.
Figures from the Finance and Leasing Association (FLA) revealed that the number of fraudulent loans in this sector has fallen by 29 per cent.
This drop refers to statistics for the second quarter of the year, which represents losses of £3.5 million.
Paul Harrison, head of motor finance for the FLA, commented that members of the body had prevented fraud crimes worth £66 million in the first half of 2009.
He added: "Fraud is not a victimless crime and our work with the police is also helping to prosecute organised gangs of fraudsters involved in very serious crimes such as drug trafficking and firearms."
Meanwhile, a study by CPP has found that more than 1.7 million Brits may be at risk of online fraud crimes because they use the same password for every website that they use.
