Cage facing fraud lawsuit

Published on 29 Dec 2009 under category: legal

Nicholas Cage is reportedly being sued as part of a multimillion-dollar fraud dispute.

The actor is at the centre of allegations made by Red Curb Investment.

According to the real estate firm, Cage committed fraud by not informing them of his financial situation.

The company claims that the Face Off and Con Air actor owes more than $5 million (£3 million) in loan payments.

This demand comes as part of a $36.7 million lawsuit filed by the firm to recover the cost of the loan, legal fees and damages.

It is alleged that Cage mislead the real estate business about his worth, with the lawsuit saying that he made assurances regarding ownership of property, jewellery, antiques and aeroplanes.

Cage has denied the claims, with a statement issued by the actor's legal team describing the allegations as "absurd and ridiculous".

Recently, the former agent of footballer Stuart Downing was charged with fraud.
