Published on 14 Sep 2009 under category: legal

As many as 30 British Gas workers have been suspended due to allegations of tampering with bills.

The utilities company has revealed that the employees have been suspended and an investigation is underway, those dealing with professional negligence cases may be interested to hear.

It has emerged that the workers are accused of tampering with their own gas and electricity bills.

The employees were based at the firm's Leicestershire call centre, with their alleged actions coming to light thanks to a routine security check which was carried out last week.

A spokesperson for the company confirmed that a "small number" of workers had been suspended from the consumer care complex, which employs more than 1,000 people.

It added that commenting on any possible action against these members of staff would be "inappropriate".

In other news, present and former workers at Dresdner Bank are suing the financial institution due to a row regarding unpaid bonuses, it emerged last week.
