Published on 7 Sep 2009 under category: legal
A former deputy to London mayor Boris Johnson is accused of fraud crimes.
Ian Clement is charged with five offences linked to the use of a credit card.
Mr Clement, who was forced to resign earlier year amid a row regarding expenses, is accused of paying for meals and groceries with his corporate card.
He has been charged with five offences under the Fraud Act.
Mr Clement will appear at the City of Westminster Magistrates Court later this week in relation to these alleged fraud crimes.
He stood down from his £127,000 per year job in June due to concerns over the use of his expenses, after having previously been leader of Bexley Council.
In other news, last week it was claimed that the Conservatives will overhaul the way that fraud crimes are investigated if they come to power.
The Times reported that the party plans to form the Financial Crime Agency to deal with these issues, which could see the Serious Fraud Office close.
