Boiler room fraudsters jailed
Published on 11 Jan 2010 under category: legal
Two men who were behind a major boiler room fraud scam have been jailed.
Martyn Jagger and Daniel Healy have been given three-and-a-half-year and 18-month sentences respectively for their roles in the £1 million scheme.
According to the police, the scam, which involves the sale of worthless or overpriced shares, predominantly focused on vulnerable elderly people.
In one instance, the pair conned £200,000 from World War II veteran David Mitchell.
The fraud crimes came to light when the 83-year-old raised concerns about his investment to the police.
Detective sergeant Simon Lambert said: "Jagger and Healy were among a group who targeted victims who were often old and vulnerable with the intention of persuading them to part with their cash knowing full well they would never see any return."
Last week, six people were bailed after appearing in court in relation to a multimillion pound mortgage fraud.
