Baroness Scotland's cleaner charged with fraud

Published on 30 Nov 2009 under category: legal

The Baroness Scotland's former cleaner has been charged with fraud crimes.

Loloahi Tapui, who is originally from Tonga, is set to appear in court in relation to using a false passport, fraud and allegedly overstaying her visa.

These charges mean that the Baroness could appear in court as a witness if the case proceeds to trial.

The 27-year-old former cleaner faces up to ten years in prison if she is found guilty of the offences.

Ms Tapui is set to appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court on December 7th in connection with these charges.

She was earlier this year fired by the Baroness, who is also the attorney general, after it was suggested that the Tongan was not eligible to stay in the UK.

Max Clifford, who is acting as a public relations advisor for Ms Tapui, denies that the 27-year-old misled the Baroness regarding her eligibility to stay and work in Britain.
