Published on 24 Nov 2009 under category: legal
ITV is being sued for £5 million by one of its former newsreaders.
Lisa Aziz is taking the action after claiming that that the company is guilty of race, age and sex discrimination.
Aziz, who was the first Asian presenter to host a terrestrial national news programme, was suspended from her job earlier this amid an alleged expenses scandal.
However, she has claimed that her alleged expense fraud was set up by bosses who wanted her to leave.
She is now suing ITV for loss of earnings, hurt feelings and damages.
Among her claims is that co-presenter Steve Smith mocked Sir Trevor McDonald's accent and also impersonated Irish and Pakistani accents during rehearsals.
Earlier this month, it was revealed that ITV was being sued by STV.
The £12 million lawsuit centres on the Scottish firm's claims regarding commercial agreements with ITV that STV says were made without consent from STV Central and STV North.
