Arrests made in mortgage fraud probe

Published on 2 Dec 2009 under category: legal

Arrests have been made as part of an investigation into mortgage fraud.

Nottinghamshire Police's Fraud and Financial Investigation Unit detailed several individuals thought to be linked to the crimes.

Eight premises in Nottingham and two in the north-west were investigated as part of the probe.

The action related to a suspected scheme in which money has been obtained through fraudulent mortgages.

It is thought that millions of pounds have been generated through this scam, which has mainly taken place in Nottinghamshire.

Officers from the City of London Fraud Squad also played a role in the search and arresting of suspects.

In other property fraud news, it was claimed last month that people renting flats or houses are at high risk of fraud.

A report by CreditExpert, which is part of Experian, suggested that young, single individuals that are renting accommodation are the group most at risk of becoming the victims of fraudsters.
