Arrests made in fraud crimes probe
Published on 10 Sep 2009 under category: legal
Arrests have been made as part of an investigation into fraud crimes in the construction sector.
More than 20 people have been detained after a series of raids all over the country.
Men and women were arrested in Manchester, London, Worcestershire and the West Midlands.
This was due to their links with attempts to cheat the public revenue and money laundering.
It is thought that the value of the alleged fraud crimes could be as much as £6 million.
HM Revenue and Customs revealed that this related to the theft of the national insurance contributions of thousands of construction workers.
It is believed that this was carried out through a missing trader scheme and took place over the last six years.
Earlier this week, it was revealed that the fraud crimes trial involving millionaire businessman Trevor Baines and his wife is set to start next week, with a jury having been chosen yesterday (September 9th).
