Apple launches Nokia lawsuit

Published on 16 Dec 2009 under category: legal

Two IT giants could be set for a courtroom showdown.

Apple is countersuing Nokia over an alleged patent infringement.

It is claimed that Nokia has infringed on 13 of its rival's patents.

These charges relate to the N900 and E71 handsets, and the move comes after Nokia launched a lawsuit against Apple in 2007.

That case argued that the iPhone firm should pay royalties to its rival because of a copyright issue.

Apple has claimed that Nokia has infringed on patents relating to phone menus, teleconferencing features, power conservation, computer connectivity and graphical interface options.

In a statement, Bruce Sewell, general counsel for Apple, said: "Other companies must compete with us by inventing their own technologies, not just by stealing ours."

Earlier this month, it was revealed that a group of parents are taking legal action against Maclaren.

The firm is being sued after claims that it ignored warnings that one of its products could injure children.
