Agent jailed for defrauding Queen's composer
Published on 3 Nov 2009 under category: legal
The former manager of the Queen's composer has been jailed for 18 months for fraud.
Michael Arnold was found to have defrauded Sir Peter Maxwell Davies of more than £500,000.
It was revealed that Arnold, who had been Sir Peter's agent for more than 30 years, began taking money from him in the early 1990s through false accounting.
This was only revealed in 2007 when he was arrested and charged for the fraud crimes.
Sir Peter told the Times that he was "delighted" with the outcome.
He said: "I went through some very difficult times because of him and I am glad it is now resolved and I can move on. I may even set it all to music. Who knows? That would be the ultimate revenge."
Fraud crimes were in the news last week when it was revealed that Helmut Kiener, founder of the K1 hedge fund, is under investigation for possible fraud.
